That lunar orbital space station is envisioned as a collection of modules, including habitats, an air lock, and a power and propulsion unit. After their sortie on the moon, they’ll return to the orbital station, where the crew will board Orion for the trip home. Finally, the astronauts will descend to the lunar surface. Orion will dock with the space station, and some of the astronauts will transfer to the waiting lander. Finally, a giant Space Launch System (SLS) rocket will launch an Orion spacecraft (which looks a lot like an Apollo command module), with astronauts inside. Then another rocket will send up an unoccupied lunar lander. A series of commercial rockets will first launch the components of a small space station, which will self-assemble in high lunar orbit. NASA’s current plan for sending astronauts back to the moon, which may happen as soon as 2024, goes a little differently. After 22 hours in the moondust, the Apollo 11 astronauts climbed into the lander’s ascent stage and returned to the command module for the trip back to Earth. The two main criteria to be a part of the Dear Moon project, Maezawa mentioned in his video was that whatever field the applicant was into he hopes that they can push the envelope in that sphere by going into space. Maezawa also mentioned that his definition of artist since 2018 has evolved and that all those people who think they are creative can apply for this mission. Since Maezawahas paid for the entire trip, the selected candidates will not be asked to spend their money on buying the seats. The mission will take three days to reach the moon and three days to return making it a total six-day trip. In total the SpaceX’s Starship, that is currently being developed by the company, will carry 10 to 12 members out of which eight are being invited by the Maezawa. On Tuesday, Maezawa released a video on YouTube where he expanded on his project and said that the crew of Dear Moon Project will be leaving in two years from now.
